Coimbatore: SankalpTaru Foundation, in collaboration with NTT DATA, has launched Phase II of its ‘Community Barren Land Restoration Programme’ near Periyanaickenpalayam in Coimbatore, under NTT DATA’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
Phase I of the project, completed in 2024–25, saw the plantation of 3,500 trees, transforming a 7-acre former dump yard into a green space. Phase II will add another 3,500 saplings during 2025–26, further expanding the green cover in the region.
Gauri Bahulkar, Senior Director of Global Corporate Social Responsibility, NTT DATA, said, “Through our CSR initiatives, including this meaningful collaboration with SankalpTaru Foundation, we have planted over 17,500 trees across India.”
Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, District Collector, added that such efforts will create awareness among the public and encourage schools, colleges, and corporates to actively participate in conserving native trees and protecting the environment.
The initiative is part of a larger effort to restore barren land, enhance local biodiversity, and promote sustainable environmental practices in Coimbatore.
