CISF seizes amphetamine drugs worth Rs 4.78 cr at IGI airport

New Delhi: The vigilance of CISF surveillance and intelligence staff prevented an attempt of drug smuggling worth Rs 4.78 cr at Terminal-3 of IGI airport here on March 9, 2023.

According to an official press note of CISF, on the basis of suspicious behavior of a lady passenger, later identified as Syeeda Abida, an Indian citizen, bound for Doha by Qatar Airways flight No. QR-4781, the CISF surveillance and intelligence staff alerted the check-in area.

The passenger was diverted to the random checking point for thorough checking of baggage. On screening of her baggage through an X-BIS machine, CISF personnel noticed images of suspicious powdery substances. 

Later, her bag was tested with drugs detection kit which gave the positive signal for the presence of amphetamine drugs. 

Twenty packets containing amphetamine drugs were found concealed in the fabricated cavity in three ladies’ purses and seven bangle boxes. The approx weight of the seized drug was about 2.39 Kg worth Rs 4.78 crore.

Later, the said passenger along with detected drugs was handed over to the NCB officials for further action in the matter, the CISF further stated in the press release. /BI/
