New Delhi: The Department of Posts (DoP) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have entered into a new partnership to widen the availability of mobile services across India. An MoU was signed today in New Delhi by Manisha Bansal Badal, General Manager (Citizen Centric Services & RB), Department of Posts, and Deepak Garg, Principal General Manager (Sales and Marketing-Consumer Mobility), BSNL.
The agreement enables more than 1.65 lakh post offices in the country to function as points of sale for BSNL SIM cards and mobile recharge services. With India Post’s reach in almost every town and village, the initiative is expected to improve last-mile connectivity, particularly in rural and remote regions.
The pilot for the model was carried out in Assam, where it has already delivered encouraging results. Building on this success, the initiative is now being rolled out nationwide. Post offices will handle customer onboarding, SIM sales, and recharge facilitation, while BSNL will supply SIM stocks and train postal staff.
Speaking at the signing, Manisha Bansal Badal said, “This partnership combines the trusted reach of India Post with the telecom expertise of BSNL to deliver affordable and accessible connectivity to every citizen.”
Deepak Garg added, “Through this collaboration, BSNL services will be available at every nook and corner of the country, enabling citizens—particularly in rural and underserved areas—to access mobile services conveniently at their nearest Post Office.”
The agreement will remain in effect for one year starting September 17, 2025, with a provision for renewal. Both organisations have agreed to conduct joint monitoring, monthly reconciliation, and maintain strict standards of cybersecurity and data privacy.
The collaboration is aligned with the goals of Digital India and aims to advance financial inclusion and socio-economic growth by improving the availability of affordable mobile services nationwide.
