Indian Navy's motorcycle expedition flagged off

Shillong: Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, flagged off the motorcycle expedition ‘Northeast Odyssey’ on October 18 from Shillong, Meghalaya. The event was attended by Lieutenant General Sanjay Malik, GOC, 101 Area, and Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, SASO, Eastern Air Command.

The expedition, undertaken in collaboration with TVS Motor Company, will cover the Northeastern states of Meghalaya, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh. Its aim is to raise awareness about the Indian Navy in these vibrant regions and engage with local youth and civil society. Similar efforts by the Navy were successfully conducted in the Northeast in 2022 and in Leh/Ladakh in 2023.

The main objectives of the initiative are to showcase the Indian Navy and conduct awareness drives at schools and colleges about career opportunities within the Navy, including the Agnipath Scheme. The expedition also highlights Nari Shakti by involving women officers and spouses, and aims to interact with naval veterans and Veer Naris in the region. The 15-day expedition will cover a distance of 2,500 kilometres, passing through various cities in Meghalaya, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh.

In his address at the flag-off ceremony, Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar stated that the Navy has always promoted adventure activities, as they not only inspire personnel to aim higher but also support team building and strengthen camaraderie, which are crucial for efficient performance at sea. He congratulated the riders for undertaking this expedition to enhance maritime consciousness and awareness about the Navy in a region that is far from the seas but close to everyone's hearts. He wished all participants a safe and memorable journey and thanked TVS Motors for partnering with the Navy for this important cause.
