New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Indians on the economy recording 7.8% real GDP growth in the April-June quarter, while calling for greater preference for locally made products and spending within India.
In a message on September 1, Modi attributed the growth to the collective efforts of 1.4 billion Indians, while noting that the economy has been navigating global challenges, including conflicts and supply disruptions.

Linking economic resilience with the broader goal of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047, he urged citizens to adopt Swadeshi in their everyday choices. His appeal included supporting the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign, choosing India for weddings instead of overseas destinations and avoiding unnecessary purchases of gold.
The message placed local consumption alongside the Atmanirbhar Bharat approach, with the Prime Minister arguing that individual spending choices can contribute to strengthening domestic economic activity.
Modi’s appeal has drawn mixed reactions, with supporters viewing the suggestions as practical measures to encourage domestic consumption, while some responses have questioned the timing and setting of the message, which was delivered while he was overseas.
