New Delhi: The Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) National Centre of Sports Science Research (NCSSR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi to expand collaboration in sports science, advanced technology and indigenous innovation. The initiative is being promoted under the guidance of Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, in line with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.

The partnership aims to develop indigenous sports equipment and devices, reduce dependence on imports, and encourage home-grown solutions under the government’s ‘Garv se Swadeshi’ campaign in the sports sector.

The MoU will support high-quality research in sports science and engineering, encourage innovation-driven projects for athlete performance enhancement, enable knowledge exchange between leading experts, and contribute to injury prevention and athlete well-being.

Alongside the MoU signing, Sports Secretary Hari Ranjan Rao inaugurated a new Biomechanics Laboratory at IIT Delhi. The facility is equipped to conduct advanced sports science assessments and biomechanical research, providing scientific insights into athlete movement, optimising performance and reducing injury risks.

The lab is expected to strengthen India’s sports science ecosystem while supporting both able-bodied and para athletes, marking a step towards greater inclusivity in Indian sports.
